Juneteenth – In All Thy Getting: The Forgotten Story of Freedmen’s Town

June 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$25

Don’t miss your chance to purchase tickets to this hit 2017 sold out play “In All Thy Getting: The Forgotten Story of Freedmen’s Town”, happening at Emancipation Park Cultural Center in collaboration with Houston Play on Purpose! Enjoy a day of theater from June 7th-9th, as part of our month long Juneteenth Celebration! This amazing production is back to teach, uplift and inspire audiences with the triumphant tale of the rise of Houston Fourth Ward’s ex-slave settlement, Freedmen’s Town!

Emancipation Park is a scared jewel founded in 1872 by freed former slaves. The community, led by 4 young men, gathered $800 to purchase the 10 acres of land for the African American community as a space to celebrate their freedom. On June 19, 1865 ‘Juneteenth,’ Texas slaves learned of their freedom. African Americans, including those in Freedmen’s Town, would congregate at Emancipation Park due to being barred from using public parks per segregation laws.
